What is Carrier Aggregation ?

Have you ever noticed this? Internet runs faster in your friend's smart phone compared to your smart phone, whereas both of you use the same network operator's internet. The main reason for this is carrier aggregation, if the network chipset that you have in your smart phone has support of carrier aggregation then you will notice a symbol 4G+ beside network signal when you access internet, nowadays this feature is available in all smart phone, however, some company has disabled this feature at software level.

What is Carrier Aggregation

Carrier aggregation (CA) is a technology with which the speed of LTE can be increased. As we know our internet connected to only 1 frequency band at a time, but in carrier aggregation it combines more than 1 frequency bands, which increases the bandwidth significantly. When multiple frequency bands are combined, we call it component carrier (CC).

Types of Component Carrier

There are 3 Types of Component Carriers

1. Intra Band Contagious Component Carrier :-

If the carrier aggregation combine occurs the same frequency band. In this, the carriers are adjacent to each other. For e.g., if your smart phone have 3 ca then combination will be "Band 40 + Band 40 + Band 8".

2. Intra Band Non-Contagious Component Carrier:-

If the carrier aggregation combine occurs at the same frequency band. In this, the carriers are not adjacent to each other.

3. Inter Band:-

There are different frequencies and two different component carriers are used on different bands, implementing it is quite complex but the speed is very high. For e.g., if your smart phone have 4 CA then combination will be "Band 40 + Band 40 + Band 8 + Band 3".

Does my Smartphone Support Carrier Aggregation?

It depends on whether the network chipset installed in your smart phone has support for ca or not, whether your smart phone company has enabled ca or not, the most important thing is whether your network provider supports ca or not, You can know this by talking to the provider.

I have given you a little information about career aggregation, there are a lot of things in CA but this is enough for someone who wants a little information about career aggregation.
